Cracked Jerk: Surprise Nothing Inside!

Cracked Jerk from Wacky Packages. From the die-cut series. This was the first series of Wacky Packages released. They were released in the years 1967 and 1968. The jokes and roughs were done primarily by Art Spiegelman, the paintings (primarily) by Norm Saunders. Packs had five stickers and a piece of gum. These were punch-outs, with glued backs to be licked and stuck. Supposedly they didn't work all that well, which is probably why they went with peel and stick stickers for the 1973 series and beyond. Originally there were 44 titles, numbered on the backs. As time went on, due to cease and desist letters, several titles had to be pulled and replaced by duplicates of other titles. This led to there being different titles with the same number and different numbers with the same title, giving a total of 56 different die-cuts. Those 12 that replaced the ones from the original 44 that were pulled are called the number variations.

Notice that number 21 has two alternates, so apparenly Moron was pulled and replaced by Jolly Mean Giant, and then Jolly Mean was pulled and replaced by Maddie Boy. The 30 stickers that were released in 1973 as the famous "1st series" were all originally released as die-cuts. There are 14 titles that did not make it into the 1973 1st series. Some of these were printed for only a very short time and are quite rare. The rarest four are: Ratz Crackers #32, Cracked Animals #38, Jolly Mean Giant #21 and 6 Up #23.

From the Second Set of Vending Topps Wacky Packages, released in early 2005. 17 images were pulled from the ANS1 that was released in 2004, and the Classic Wackys from the 1970s and 1985 series. Vending Wackys are printed in very shiny, metallic backs. 15 sheets make the entire series. Each sheet comes in its own paper folder, as it would look just coming out of the vending machine.

His thirty or so published Wacky Packages titles include Soft Head Bulbs from series 6 (now a magnet in All New Series 3), Kentucky Fried Fingers from series 8, and most of the 12th series wackies.

Wacky Packages are stickers (peel and punch-out) that were released by the Topps Chewing Gum company (and their Canadian partner OPC) from 1967 to the most recent series in 2004.
They parodied common household products and were extremely popular among children in the 1970's. Read what some of the newspapers had to say at the time.
